How did I start tattooing?:

I was so excited to start a career using art because it had taken me over a year, after finishing college, to finally find something I wanted to do with my life. I have always wanted to do something creative, to do something inspiring to others. Art is a creative outlet for a lot of people and not everyone is able to be creative in their life.

I was hoping my apprenticeship was going to be everything I had dreamed about, because most of art school was not. I was bullied the entire time I was in school, whether it was for not being able to draw, but being abler to paint well. Whether it was for working on the same painting for weeks at a time, or producing TWENTY small paintings in two weeks. i could never please my teachers or peers. There was always someone judging me for either not knowing what I was doing or, apparently from others, being better than some and actually knowing what I wanted and that made people upset.

I told my tattoo artist everything that happened at school and how I was being bullied at my full time job and that I just wanted to do art, I just wanted to create for the rest of my life.

I was offered to become a tattoo apprentice, to learn how to put my art permanently on someone. I never thought I would ever be good enough to do that. I met someone in school who was taking a pause on tattooing to learn more about art. I was shocked at how open and calm she was about tattooing. How she knew she wanted to learn and explore more in art to make herself a better artist for her clients. I had told her that she would never catch me as a tattoo artist, but look at me now.

Art is Life.

What is it about art that makes it so important to some people?

For some, art is an outlet. It is a way for people to decide who they are, what they want to be or just for them to be able to breathe for a moment. Art can help so many people move on through death, heart break, etc. because art is a way to lose oneself while creating.

GET LOST IN THE ART

Get lost in the work. Whether it is you creating the art, or just looking at a piece.

       Get lost in it.

Spend hours creating or hours admiring other peoples work.

Art is about research, and exploration. It takes years to figure out the style an artist is going to continue to use. Even over time, they will switch up their styles, or sometimes they have perfected it so much that it looks like a whole new style to them.                    Whether you, the reader, are an artist or not, take the time to appreciate what is in front of you. Take the time to learn from it and to grow.

DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SHOW YOUR WORK.
